Ed Sheeran - The A Team
- I particularly like the use of the black and white effect used in this video because I feel it helps portray the serious mood of the song.
- Also, the use of pull focus to emphasise the girl at certain moments works very well to draw attention to the narrative.
- The mise-en-scene works very well because the location is very ordinary, and many of the props and costume are everyday items that reinforce to the audience that this girl is just an ordinary girl, and the troubles she is facing is represented by drugs and the lack of money, which is not an uncommon occurence among young people in society today.
- The video uses Goodwin's theory whereby the lyrics link to the visuals.
- Overall, the use of camera shots are relatively simple and I feel that this is a video we could accomplish ourselves.
Blink 182, All The Small Things
- I like the use of many different locations in this video and it's something I think we should consider doing ourselves. The locations are also very simple, and therefore work well.
- The wide range of costumes is very entertaining for the audience because they're not normal, everyday clothing, but bright colours suits and fancy dress costumes.
- The dancing and comedic shots add to the entertainment value of the video, which attracts the target audience and encourages them to watch more videos by the audience. The exotic costumes add to their Star Image .
The Lonely Forest, We Sing In Time
- The overlay effect works very well to interweave the narrative and performance elements of the video.
- The reduced saturation helps give the video a darker mood to it, which is reflected in the lyrics.
- I like the use of close ups on certain props to help the audience to understand the narrative.
Matthew West, My Own Little World
- Dyer's Paradox 1 is evident in this video as the artist is often seen singing into the camera through close ups, and the lyrics speak about 'normal' people and therefore help the audience realte to the artist.
- There are a few shots where Goodwin's notion of looking is evident through windows and mirrors to enhance the experience for the audience and help them relate to the character and story being played out.
- The many close ups of the artist help the audience to understand when the video is showing narrative and performance.
Paolo Nutini, New Shoes
- Goodwin's notion of looking here emphasises the artists Star Image as he is constantly there for the audience to see.
- This relates to Dyer's paradox's in that he is meant to seem very ordinary, getting up and having an average, hectic morning however, the reinforcing of the star image continues to portray him as extraordinary.
- I like the use of costume in this video, it is very normal, and very achievable for us.
I love the video for The A Team, the black and white filter really amplifies the atmosphere of the track. All The Small Things is in my top 5 as well. As it is a spoof i think it has a fun mood to it that we might want to recreate in our video but a little more seriously. Good job.
